The Scorch Trials

I'm reading The Scorch Trials, the second book of a five book series, by James Dashner. This book is outstanding so far. It starts right away with action which will always catch any reader's attention. This book starts with Teresa and Thomas talking to each other telepathically to keep each other company during the night, trying to help take away each other's fears and night terrors from the horrible experiences they had in the maze only the day before. This was right after they had been "saved' by a facility that was against W.I.C.K.E.D- the people that put the Gladers into the maze-. They sat there in silence getting their memories back until Teresa suddenly vanishes after saying that something was wrong. Once Teresa vanished, Thomas woke up to Gladers running around and seeing bloody, zombie-like people called Cranks screaming at their windows saying, "Kill me! Kill me! Kill me!". The boys escaped the room they were locked in and behind the door was darkness filled with the stench of death. They turn the lights on only to see that the people who saved them that night were dead, hanged to what appeared to be a few hours ago. This is when sudden panic overcame him, he didn't know where Teresa was and she wasn't answering his telepathic messages.
When they found another room in the building they discovered another boy named Aris. He had the telepathic gift too. After this meeting that they had, they went back out of the room to discover all sorts of weird things, the bodies were gone, the windows were bricked up and all sorts of other things. Thomas tries once more to contact Teresa and it becomes apparent that her memory has been wiped again and she doesn't remember Thomas.

I have never been in a situation where I'm stranded in a little building not knowing who I am or where I have come from, but, I can still relate to some of the feelings that the main characters are going through. First off, I can definitely relate the friendship that Thomas and Teresa have together because I have that with my friend. We have been l super close ever since we met. I can't even imagine one day they just forgot who I was because that would mean a huge part of my life would be striped from me leaving me devastated.

I love how James Dashner continues to leave me wanting to read more because of all of the mystery around the writing of the future technology, diseases and organizations. I want to know how all of the weird things keep happening and what caused the cranks to go insane. I also love the way the author, James Dashner, was able to continue the first book the maze runner in such a smooth and seamless line. I can't wait until I finish this book to see if the next book is connected to the one before it as well.
